Korra is a young girl from the Southern Water Tribe and is the direct successor to the previous Avatar, Aang. She has a hot headed and rebellious nature, often leading her to make rash decisions. Being the avatar she is the manifested human form of a spirit able to master all four of the bending arts; Water, Earth, Fire and Air.

She is the first Avatar to hail from the Water Tribes in 489 years.

[edit] Background

Born into the Soutern Water Tribe some years after the death of the previous Avatar, Aang, she learned the art of waterbending. Not much is known about the earlier years of her life. At some point she learned of her role as the next incarnation of the Avatar and began her training to become a fully realised one. After mastering earthbending and firebending on top of her waterbending skills, she seeks out to find the last known airbender alive; Tenzin the youngest son of Aang and Katara.

Roughly 70 years after the War Korra arrived in Republic City in order to find the dwelling of Tenzin so she could complete her training to become a fully realised Avatar. While there, she stumbled upon a campaign of anti-bending in the city. Alongside her Animal Guide, Naga a Polar Bear Dog she will meet a sibling duo of Mako, a firebender, and Bolin, an earthbender who will join her in her journey to remove the blight of anti-benders called the Equalists Revolt.
